What is Freemasonry?
Freemasonry is a fraternal organization. In plain language, it is a society of men who meet to become better friends, better neighbours, and more thoughtful people. Lodges gather regularly, support one another, and take part in the life of their communities.
It is not a religion, a political party, or a business club. This website does not describe private ceremonies. What can be said publicly is that Freemasonry asks a man to keep his word, to treat others with respect, and to work on his own character.
What do Freemasons value?
Relief
A willingness to help, quietly and practically, when help is needed.

Honesty in speech and a habit of examining one’s own conduct.
Integrity
Keeping promises and living in a way that can bear daylight.

Regular fellowship that is more than a single evening’s acquaintance.

What can I expect?
Making an inquiry is straightforward. You write to the lodge, share a little about yourself, and ask your questions. There is no fee to inquire and no obligation to proceed.

- Freemasonry is a fraternal organization that brings men together around friendship, personal development, and service. Its public teachings emphasize brotherly love, relief, and truth. Lodges meet regularly for fellowship and the work of the Craft, and they take part in the wider life of their communities.
- Eligibility is set by the Grand Lodge of Alberta, not by this website. In general terms, men who are interested in Freemasonry usually begin by making an inquiry, meeting members, and learning whether the fraternity is a good fit. We do not publish a complete list of requirements here. If you would like to learn more, please contact the lodge and we will point you toward current, official information.
- The simplest first step is to write to Pearl of the Orient Lodge No. 206. Share a little about yourself and what you would like to know. A member can then follow up, answer public questions, and help you understand what joining would involve.
- You can expect a courteous reply and a chance to ask questions. There is no obligation. A conversation, and perhaps an invitation to a suitable public or social occasion, is the usual beginning. Private lodge ceremonies are not discussed on this website and are not part of a first inquiry.
- Membership typically means attending lodge meetings, supporting the brethren, and taking part in the life of the lodge over time. There is a commitment of time and, as in most voluntary organizations, there are dues. Exact expectations vary and will be explained during a genuine inquiry. This page does not describe private degrees or ceremonies.
- Visiting Freemasons from recognized jurisdictions are generally welcomed, and they should contact the lodge before attending. People who are not Freemasons are welcome to inquire and may be invited to appropriate public or social occasions. Regular lodge meetings themselves are for members and qualified visitors.
